"Chameleon Church" is a psychedelic soft rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1967.
Among the Boston psychedelic pop campaign, also known as the "Bostown Sound," masterminded by producer Alan Lorber, Chameleon Church's 1968 album, their only album, is considered a masterpiece alongside Ultimate Spinach and Orpheus. The high level of completion as a soft rock work, with baroque-style orchestral arrangements and meticulous vocal harmonies, as well as the psychedelic and dreamy sound featuring a sitar that seems to emerge from a deep echo, strongly appeals to the uniqueness of this work. The drums/keyboard player is Chevy Chase, who later became a successful actor.
The majestic mellow sound is intertwined with high-tone vocals and gorgeous harmonies, making it supremely pop and delicious, with a hint of psychedelic essence exquisitely scattered throughout the arrangements of each song.
The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back, and the twilight feeling is a perfect match for this time of day, reminiscent of the Beach Boys' "Friends" released in the same year.
In short, all the songs have the best melodies/arrangements, and there are no throwaway tracks, making it a masterpiece.
